Fort Lowell Records Takes Over Avenue B for Alt-Zalea Music Fest Showcase

Fort Lowell Records brings its roster to Avenue B in Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday, April 11, for a full-day label showcase as part of the Alt-Zalea Music Festival — a gathering of artists whose work moves comfortably across the boundaries of indie rock, experimental pop, hip-hop, and underground songwriting. The label has become known for its careful curation and artist-centered approach, building a catalog that favors individuality over genre boundaries. This showcase offers a rare opportunity to experience the label’s breadth in a single setting — from intimate songwriting to beat-driven performances and experimental textures. Avenue B, located at 723 N. 4th street,  will be hosting in the open-air courtyard in Wilmington’s Brooklyn Arts District, reflecting a shared ethos between label and venue: independent music presented up close, in a space designed for discovery.

BlaSE

SET TIME: 1:00 PM

Chicago-born and Wilmington-based multi-instrumentalist Blase unveils his most expansive and heartfelt project yet with Somewhere Out There, released through Fort Lowell Records. Known for merging shimmering synth layers with warm indie pop foundations, Blase has evolved from his early days as a Chicago drummer into a solo artist who transforms fleeting feelings into vivid musical worlds. Inspired by a transformative journey traveling across the entire United States, the album captures the essence of wide-open landscapes and the quiet revelations found on the road.  With Somewhere Out There, he invites listeners on a journey that feels both personal and universal — an exploration of solitude, connection, and the unexpected places where we find meaning.

TERCEL

SET TIME: 2:30 PM

Drawing sonic inspiration from the 90’s and early 2000’s indie scene, focusing their efforts on a pure wall of sound, the textures and dynamics have turned into anthemic indie hits that feel familiar.

Tercel will remind you of your favorite band, the one you listened to that summer you were driving with the windows down at the turn of a season. The guitar leads, swathed in fuzz and reverb, will bury into your psyche. The lyricism, yearning for a brighter future, a cold swim, a world where women don’t live in fear, and when the sun comes up we greet it with open arms.

FUZZ JAXX

SET TIME: 3:15 PM

Fuzz Jaxx and CoolOutSessions are a force to be reckoned with. Hailing from Georgia (FJ) and North Carolina (COS) the love and knowledge they have for the music and culture is astonishing. Fuzz had bars beyond the average emcee and a stage presence to match. The smooth melodic tones that CoolOutSessions provides compliments Fuzz’s voice and lyrics. The two are creating a different sound that is slowly but surely grabbing ears. Also, the production is far beyond the watered down versions of what hip hop is today. Their sound is a definite throwback and tribute to J Dilla and Native Tongues vibes.

Blab School

SET TIME: 7:00 PM

Blab School is a post-punk quartet from North Carolina. Their self-titled debut LP comes out on Fort Lowell Records on June 6, 2024. Taking philosophical cues from American post-punk bands like the Wipers and Talking Heads, also incorporating the goth-adjacent tones of bands like Joy Division and Killing Joke, and adding the often danceable and joyfully nihilistic aesthetic of 21st-century punk, Blab School makes music that is simultaneously urgent and fun, upbeat and crooked, loud and thoughtful.
